JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manager, Java Development will manage all phases of SDLC playing a key role in building apps that interface with sophisticated back-end systems. The role requires strong knowledge of server-side technologies, good experience with iterative development & SDLC tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee implementation and manage applications in a global software platform and various other corporate systems, tools, and scripts
  • Leads and/or manage a group of developers and provide direction on projects including hands-on coding
  • Collaborate with other internal groups to translate business and functional requirements into technical implementation for the automation of existing processes and the development of new applications
  • Communicate with internal customers in non-technical terms, understand business requirements, and propose solutions and recommendations to upper management
  • Oversee projects from requirements and technical specification gathering, systems architecture documentation, to development, to QA, user acceptance testing, and deployment to production
  • Author software architecture documentation including systems topology, services and component models, sequence diagrams, deployment architecture and models
  • Define, collaborate and optimize detailed work-breakdown of tasks and estimation to accelerate and de-risk project delivery
  • Participate in meetings and organize work and/or training sessions around new software being introduced into the technology environment
  • Document changes and author documentation on software development standards and practices
  • Sets the technical direction of the team including standards around coding and design.
  • Under minimal supervision, exercise judgment within defined standard practices and procedures to analyze, test, design, program, debug, modify and implement system requirements.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Software/Computer Engineering (or equivalent) required. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience developing low latency, high-performance transactional software systems and components using standard Enterprise Integration Patterns and design principles.
  • 2+ years of people management experience with 3+ direct reports
  • Previous management experience is preferred.
  • A deep knowledge of:
    -Java 8+
    -OOD, Design Patterns
    -Distributed messaging, JMS
    -Spring and its frameworks like Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data
    -Multi-threaded server-side development
  • Demonstrable experience taking business requirements from initial POCs through development to production deployments.
  • Experience applying continuous improvement tools and agile development methods to enhance and evolve complex systems driven by business needs
  • Data analysis skills and competence in MS Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently on multiple projects
  • Demonstrable skills in production support and root cause analysis
  • Familiarity with Web Application Architecture (HTTP, Client/Server, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, ReactJS)
  • Experience with SQL and Database Technologies (PL/SQL, Hibernate, JPA)

PREFERRED

  • Exposure to the financial services technologies domain, particularly in futures and options
  • Working knowledge with shell scripts and CLI in Linux
  • Experience in developing micro-services in container-based Kubernetes platforms (OpenShift, Tanzu)
