We are working on a new Private Equity opportunity in San Francisco. Our client has recently closed on their first institutional fund of $216 million. The firm focuses on control buyouts in the manufacturing, business services and industrials sectors. They are looking to add a Senior Associate and an Associate to the team. This a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing firm. Both positions are career track roles.

The Associate will support senior investment professionals in all aspects of new investments, add-on investments, divestitures and related financings, including but not limited to the following:

• Building robust, flexible financial models to support deal underwriting and deal structuring efforts, including income statement forecasting, multiple scenario analysis, capital structuring, etc.
• Valuation of new investment opportunities and portfolio companies;
• Working with management teams, other capital providers, accountants, attorneys and other service providers on new investment opportunities and portfolio companies;
• Tracking internal deal flow
• Conducting industry research and analysis;
• Preparation of investment approval materials as part of the due diligence process;
• Assistance with ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies
• Supporting firm marketing activities and investor communication

Desired skills and experience:

• Undergraduate degree with an academic record of high achievement
Minimum 2 years prior experience in investment banking, strategic consulting, private equity, research, M&A, or similar fields
• Advanced Excel skills and significant financial modeling and valuation experience with strong understanding of accounting and financial concepts
• Solid PowerPoint and Word skills
• Strong analytical and communication (verbal/written) skills
• Ability to draw conclusions about fund investment opportunities using quantitative and qualitative data points and comparative analysis
• Team player and self-starter
• Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks, prioritizing effectively to meet critical deadlines, while maintaining a high quality work product
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong work ethic and integrity

The Senior Associate will work independently and in support of senior management on all aspects of new investments, add-on investments, divestitures, and related financings, including but not limited to the following:

• Taking a lead role in sourcing and processing new investment opportunities, ranging from market assessment to competitive positioning, to initial underwriting and deal structuring, to pitching deals internally to the investment committee
• Leading diligence efforts on pursued deals, including business diligence, risk underwriting, and working with management teams, capital providers, accountants, attorneys and other external advisors on new investment opportunities and portfolio companies;
• Building robust, flexible financial models to support deal underwriting and deal structuring efforts
• Performing ad-hoc analysis to support transaction negotiations
• Providing hands-on support to portfolio companies
• Developing deal team members in advanced modeling and other aspects of deal processing
• Supporting firm marketing activities and investor communication

Desired skills and experience:

Bachelor’s degree with an academic record of high achievement; Graduate degree desirable
2+ years of Associate-level, principal investment experience with a lower middle or middle market private equity firm investment banking, strategic consulting, private equity, research, M&A, or similar fields
• Significant experience managing deal processes
• Superior financial modeling skills; strong understanding of accounting and financial concepts
• Strong analytical and communication (verbal/written) skills
• Highly entrepreneurial, passion for knowledge, drive for excellence, business savvy, creative, high integrity, flexible, professional maturity
• Proven track record of leadership skills and a strong desire to work closely with entrepreneurs
