Matt Telford joins BrainWorks as a Director of Legal Recruiting. He partners with law firms and corporate legal departments to recruit exceptional legal talent. Before transitioning into legal recruiting, Matt practiced as a litigation attorney in private practice for nearly a decade at firms including Latham & Watkins and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. His firsthand knowledge of the legal profession enables him to provide clients and candidates with strategic, practical guidance throughout the recruiting process.
Matt recruits attorneys across a broad range of settings, including Am Law 100 firms, boutique practices, and in-house legal departments. He is known for building lasting relationships with both clients and candidates and for serving as a trusted advisor throughout the recruiting process. His background as both a former Big Law attorney and legal search consultant enables him to understand the nuances of legal practice while helping organizations identify talent that aligns with their long-term business objectives and culture.
Matt is also a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Prior to law school, he worked at the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C., and has remained actively involved in advancing equality within the legal profession. He has served on the Board of the LGBT Bar and continues to volunteer with organizations dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and legal professionals.
Originally from North Carolina, Matt’s hobbies include traveling, playing pickleball, and spending time with his rescue cat, Leo.
