Our client is a group of leading residential services businesses that conducts HVAC, plumbing and electrical work for residential home-owners. The Company and its executive team are being backed by Alpine Investors (“Alpine”), a private equity firm that specializes in majority or full buyouts of founder-owned businesses and corporate carve-outs. Alpine specializes in lower middle-market companies (i.e., those with valuations of $10 – $300 million), having invested in many companies since inception in 2001. Alpine recently closed its Fund VIII at $2.25 billion in capital commitments.

In this fragmented industry dominated by small and founder-owned businesses, the company strategy is to execute significant organic growth initiatives and high-frequency M&A. This roll-up strategy necessitates an A+ Corporate Development team.

Mission of the Role:

The Corporate Development Associate will be a critical, high-profile role, primarily supporting the business development stage of our corporate development process and critical to our mission of building a highly scalable, best-in-class corporate development organization. For this role, we are seeking a driven, energetic and successful sales and business development professional, with an interest in private equity and hands-on investments with private businesses. This individual should possess an entrepreneurial mindset to help grow the family of companies. As a member of the Corporate Development team, this position will expose you to business development, business analysis and valuations and the full lifecycle of the M&A process. Successful candidates will have a meaningful impact on the value creation of a growth-minded company grounded in honesty, caring, and hard-work.

Responsibilities:

The day-to-day responsibilities of this position will consist of:

  • Building, developing, and maintaining strong relationships with business owners considering the company as a partner for their business
  • Crafting a compelling message to business owners on why they should partner with and sell their company
  • Consistently reaching out to business owners via phone, email and in-person to maintain a pipeline of potential acquisition opportunities
  • Qualifying and analyzing deals based on investment criteria and operating model, and working with the senior management team to “win the deal”
  • Attending industry events and conferences of interest

Candidates should be excited about a role where they will play a pivotal role in speaking and meeting with target companies and having frequent conversations and meetings with business owners to determine whether there is a strong two-way fit between the company and their business, financially and qualitatively. Any initial introductory calls or meetings with business owners will primarily be pre-arranged through industry contacts or our internal efforts. Candidates should possess a desire to become very knowledgeable about the industry and value proposition. Candidates also must possess a high degree of professionalism and organization as they will be interacting with multiple business owners daily and reporting directly to the companies’ senior management team.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting or a related field with a track record of strong academic and extracurricular performance
  • Strong relationship development and communication skills
  • 2-3 years of experience in a business development, consulting, or sales-oriented role with a medium to long project or sales cycle
  • Experience or strong interest in M&A, transaction execution, private equity and private investments, strongly preferred
  • Financial and excel modelling skills and accounting knowledge, a plus
  • Experience managing multiple work efforts with little oversight and interacting directly with senior leadership or business owners, a plus
