Corporate Controller
Location: Remote
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing, private equity-backed industrial services platform is seeking a Corporate Controller to join its leadership team at an exciting early stage of growth.
The company is building a scaled platform through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions across the industrial services sector. This is a high-visibility, high-impact opportunity for a Controller who wants to help build something rather than inherit an established infrastructure.
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will have significant ownership in building the accounting organization, establishing scalable processes and controls, implementing systems, and integrating acquired businesses. The role will serve as a key partner to the CFO, executive team, private equity sponsor, and operations leadership as the platform continues to scale.
The ideal candidate is a builder and operator—someone who understands what best-in-class controllership looks like but is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to build processes, systems, controls, and teams in an evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall corporate controllership function, including general ledger, AP, AR, close, and financial reporting.
- Build and scale accounting processes, policies, controls, and infrastructure to support a rapidly growing, multi-entity organization.
- Own and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate U.S. GAAP financial reporting.
- Lead accounting and finance integration of acquired industrial services businesses, including chart-of-accounts alignment, ERP conversions, data migration, process integration, and post-close standardization.
- Lead purchase accounting and business combination accounting related to acquisitions.
- Partner with the CFO and FP&A team on financial reporting, budgeting, KPIs, debt compliance, and other management reporting.
- Help design and implement the finance and accounting technology stack, leveraging automation and technology to create efficiency and scalability.
- Partner with the CFO to determine the appropriate organizational structure, resources, and capabilities required as the platform grows.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting team while establishing a strong culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Support acquisition diligence and transaction execution and serve as a key accounting partner throughout the M&A lifecycle.
- Partner closely with operations to provide financial insight, improve processes, and support profitable growth.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other external stakeholders.
- Establish and enhance accounting policies and controls, including revenue recognition, WIP, capitalization, purchasing, and approval processes.
Ideal Background
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience within a PE-backed, multi-entity, acquisitive environment.
- Experience building or scaling an accounting organization within a high-growth platform.
- Demonstrated experience integrating multiple acquisitions and bringing disparate accounting processes, systems, and teams together.
- Strong U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls expertise.
- Experience with ASC 606, ASC 805, and ASC 842.
- Experience with ERP implementations or conversions; Sage Intacct and/or NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Experience implementing accounting technology and automation tools.
- Industrial services, field services, construction, or another multi-site operating environment strongly preferred.
- Experience partnering with private equity sponsors, lenders, boards, and executive leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA preferred.
Leadership Profile
This role is well suited for a hands-on, entrepreneurial Controller who thrives in an early-stage environment and is energized by growth, M&A, and building infrastructure.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting and controllership capabilities along with the executive presence to operate as a key member of the leadership team. They will be comfortable moving between strategy and execution, building relationships across the organization, and taking ownership of problems without waiting for perfect answers.
This is an opportunity to build the accounting organization of a growing industrial services platform, with the potential to grow alongside the business.
