An established and growing company is seeking a Director of Credit to lead its Corporate Credit Department. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the credit and collections function across multiple business units, ensuring accounts receivable goals are met while aligning with the company’s overall risk strategy and growth objectives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, service-oriented leader with deep expertise in credit management, team development, and cross-functional communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Lead and develop a Credit team composed of Credit Account Representatives, Credit Coordinators, and administrative professionals to ensure effective credit and collections operations.
Credit Policy Management:
- Own and evolve the company’s credit policy in line with leadership’s risk tolerance. Oversee credit limit setting, reviews, and exceptions for new and existing customers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner closely with Sales, Operations, and Finance teams to support business lines including equipment sales, rentals, parts, and services. Act as a key liaison to resolve customer account issues collaboratively.
Customer Engagement & Collections:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers. Balance a service-oriented mindset with effective collection strategies to manage bad debt exposure and promote positive customer experiences.
Credit Evaluation:
- Oversee customer onboarding, perform initial and ongoing credit assessments, and develop workout plans for overdue accounts.
Legal & Compliance Oversight:
- Collaborate with legal counsel on collection actions and contract matters. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in credit and collections processes.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Provide regular reporting and analysis of key metrics, including AR aging, collections performance, and credit risk indicators. Support budgeting and forecasting of bad debt allowance.
Process Improvement & Technology:
- Continuously assess and implement new tools, systems, and processes to improve efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
Talent Development:
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to build a high-performing, service-focused Credit organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university (Business, Finance, or related field preferred)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Credit, Collections and/or General Business leadership roles
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Proven ability to work with both internal stakeholders and external customers to resolve complex credit and collections matters
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Experience working with financial and operational metrics
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); Power BI and Dynamics 365 experience preferred
- Experience in construction or industrial sectors is a plus, but not required.
