A growing and dynamic company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as the primary legal advisor on all matters related to corporate transactions, acquisitions, real estate, and investment activity within our expanding real estate portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as legal counsel and strategic partner to senior leadership, providing practical advice on legal, regulatory, and business matters
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws across all departments and operations
- Lead legal due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, and financing of multi-family properties
- Structure, negotiate, and review loan documents and financing arrangements for real estate assets
- Manage and direct outside litigation counsel, including litigation strategy and budgeting
- Monitor and reduce legal spend through efficient management of legal resources and vendor relationships
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on new investment opportunities and corporate initiatives
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Missouri and Kansas City (or eligible to waive in)
- Minimum 5 to 10 years of legal experience in commercial real estate transactions
- Strong knowledge of multi-family or commercial real estate transactions and financing with experience in drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements
- Ability to manage outside counsel
- Business-minded and entrepreneurial legal advisor with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
