About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Market Development Manager – Fire & Life Safety (AHJ & Industry Relations) to drive awareness, adoption, and specification of life safety solutions across the United States.This is a highly visible role responsible for increasing acceptance and enforcement of applicable codes and standards through direct engagement with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), state fire organizations, consulting engineers, architects, industry associations, and other key market influencers.
Success in this position requires strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate understands how code adoption, enforcement trends, and specification development shape market demand and can translate those insights into scalable market growth strategies.
This is not a direct sales role. The primary responsibility is driving market adoption through AHJ engagement, code adoption, industry influence, education, and scalable market development initiatives. The role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Technical teams to strengthen market positioning and long-term commercial success.
What You’ll Do
- Drive AHJ Engagement & Code Adoption
- Serve as the primary liaison to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), state fire marshal offices, radio license holders, and other code enforcement stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers who influence the interpretation, adoption, and enforcement of life safety codes and standards
- Develop engagement strategies that increase awareness and enforcement of applicable code requirements related to life safety communication technologies and ERCES solutions
- Monitor regulatory, code, and enforcement trends that influence business strategy and market opportunities
- Partner with commercial leadership to prioritize jurisdictions where code adoption and enforcement activities can accelerate market growth
- Represent the organization at AHJ meetings, code forums, state fire organizations, and industry association events
Anticipate & Respond to Market Dynamics
- Monitor emerging regulatory, competitive, and market developments
- Translate market intelligence into actionable recommendations for leadership
- Partner with Product Management, Sales, and Marketing to incorporate market insights into commercial and go-to-market strategies
- Maintain visibility of market intelligence, engagement activity, and opportunities through CRM and business systems
Scale Market Influence Through Thought Leadership
- Develop and execute external thought leadership initiatives related to life safety technologies and code adoption
- Secure and deliver speaking engagements at industry conferences, state fire marshal meetings, technical forums, and association events
- Increase specification preference among architects, engineers, consultants, and other design professionals
- Build relationships with consulting firms, specification influencers, and industry organizations that shape project specifications and design standards
- Partner with Marketing and technical subject matter experts to develop educational strategies and technical content priorities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Engineering, Fire Protection, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in market development, industry relations, public safety, fire protection, telecommunications, or a related technical field
- Experience working with AHJs, consulting engineers, architects, specification influencers, or code enforcement stakeholders
- Strong understanding of AHJ, engineering, architectural, and building code ecosystems
- Experience working in regulated or standards-driven industries
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent public speaking, presentation, and facilitation abilities
- Ability to influence without formal authority
- Strategic thinker with strong execution skills
- Experience translating market intelligence into commercial initiatives
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience utilizing CRM and business intelligence platforms
- Willingness to travel up to 50%
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate has experience influencing industry adoption through education, relationship development, and technical credibility rather than direct sales. They have established relationships within the fire protection and life safety community and are comfortable engaging with AHJs, consulting engineers, architects, specification influencers, and industry associations.They are equally comfortable presenting at conferences, participating in technical committees, leading educational programs, interpreting codes and standards, and helping shape market strategy through industry engagement.
