WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The Manager, Materials Planning oversees the end-to-end planning of both packaging and raw materials, building and implementing strategy, processes and tools that ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and timely supply across our comanufacturing and supplier network.

This role collaborates closely with Supply Planning and CoMan teams, driving strategic leadership, system and process optimization, risk management, and performance accountability across the materials planning function.

The Manager, Materials Planning leads and develops a high-performing team responsible for ingredient and packaging planning. This role sets the vision for materials planning excellence, providing direction, coaching, and support to ensure the team delivers reliable supply, optimizes inventory, reduces obsolescence, and supports business growth initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead end-to-end materials planning for ingredients and packaging to ensure production readiness across comanufacturing partners.
  • Implement and continuously improve systems, tools, and processes to monitor inventory health, material availability, and excess and obsolete materials.
  • Deliver accurate forecasts to suppliers to drive proactive planning of ingredient and packaging materials.
  • Partner with suppliers and comans to ensure contracted volumes (including VMI agreements) align with business needs; proactively resolve discrepancies and establish allocations as needed.
  • Monitor supplier and coman inventory and safety stock levels to ensure alignment with targeted inventory and obsolescence goals.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Planning to establish and maintain safety stock strategies for packaging and raw materials.
  • Manage relationships with packaging vendors to optimize VMI programs, supporting cost-effective production run blocks while ensuring supply continuity.
  • Maintain material master data integrity and partner cross-functionally to support new product launches, discontinuations, and specification changes.
  • Support R&D trials and commercialization efforts to ensure flawless execution of new product launch timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong tactical relationships with existing and prospective suppliers to strengthen supply chain resilience.
  • Act as the primary liaison among Planning, Procurement, QA, and Coman teams, proactively managing and resolving near-term supply challenges and escalating to Procurement as appropriate.
  • Develop, mentor, and coach direct reports to drive functional excellence in materials planning.
  • Lead and contribute to special projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional assignments as needed. · Support other miscellaneous SMPL and departmental initiatives as required

KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of MRP processes, supply chain principles, and best practices in materials planning
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to engage, develop, and manage high-performing teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across internal teams and external partners (suppliers, comanufacturers, and customers)
  • Strong execution skills with a track record of successfully implementing plans, projects, and supplier initiatives
  • Knowledge of waste reduction strategies, inventory optimization, and continuous improvement practices (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Strategic thinking capability with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and risk mitigation
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and driving results

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Operations Planning, Materials Management, Supply Chain, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in Procurement, Planning, and/or Supplier Management within CPG
  • 2–4 years of experience leading and developing teams with a focus on engagement and growth
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems
  • MBA, CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager), or APICS certification (preferred)
  • Comanufacturing (CoMan) experience (a plus)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (10%–15%)

We provide the base salary range, exclusive of benefits or additional incentives (https://www.thesimplygoodfoodscompany.com/careers). Additionally, this position is eligible for a 15% annual short-term incentive. If you are hired at Simply Goods Foods, your final base salary compensation will be determined based upon such factors as: geographic locations, skills, training, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that hiring at the compensation range maximum would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.

Headquarters / Simply Offices:
CO annual salary range is: $115,000– $130,000
