The Mechanical Design Engineer works on several projects where technology and innovation play a crucial role to create detailed mechanical designs of specialty products for B2B and B2C markets in the industrial and gaming industries. As a member of the multi-disciplinary design & NPI team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will design and engineer complex platforms and systems and assist throughout the design & NPI cycle to meet customer requirements from the development of conceptual prototypes and architecture, through the development phase and into full-scale production.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works closely with engineering, design and NPI teams to design and develop new and existing products that meet performance specifications, deadlines and cost goals.
• Participates in design visualization efforts by creating 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to explore multiple design options.
• Creates functional and manufacturable designs from concept sketches by applying mechanical design approaches and parameters for physical production design; applying standard concepts, practices and procedures and using various metals, glass composites, elastomeric materials and plastics.
• Reviews design specifications and requirements and develops designs to best support them to include the design of user interface and electrical enclosures, and plastic and metal mechanical components, mechanisms, and assemblies.
• Works with domestic and international suppliers and manufacturers to procure and fabricate mechanical components.
• Leverages field-test data to understand and manage design trade-offs.
• Evaluates product quality by working closely with the Fi team and consulting with client’s engineering and manufacturing departments to confirm system and product capabilities, design and conduct research of mechanical systems, design feasibility and testing methods to test finished product and system capabilities, and confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
• Participates in the evaluation and troubleshooting of product performance issues.
• Tests and re-tests designs and systems to isolate problems with mechanical equipment, and re-engineers product when problems are found to bring product to full functionality.
• Provides technical engineering support.
• Uses SolidWorks software to design, evaluate, and archive product documentation.
• Creates detailed design schematics for various components of a project.
• Creates engineering package including BOM, assembly trees, parts list, etc. Page 2 | 3
• Works with clients to provide product specifications for their use.
• Communicates and collaborates daily with Fi team to ensure all aspects of the project are addressed.
• Provides team with regular status updates to keep the team apprised of the progress and/or challenges encountered on assigned projects.
• Prepares and maintains project documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The Mechanical Engineer works collaboratively with creative and cross-functional disciplines in a multi-project design/production environment. This position requires an entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset, and the ability to pro-actively tackle challenges while managing details in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. In addition, the following is required:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 3 years’ Mechanical Design experience in a professional engineering position that requires performing an integral role in product development activities from concept through production.
• Prior responsibility for and experience contributing to the design of packaging of electronic components.
• Exposure to designing with different plastic forming and metal fabrication processes such as sheet metal forming, diecasting, plastic injection molding and /or reaction injection molding (RIM) manufacturing methods.
• Experience collaborating with clients and teams throughout the design process is preferred.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Working knowledge of drawing creation per ASME Y14.5 2009 standard.
• Working knowledge of best practices of Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA) techniques.
• Proficiency with prototyping fidelities and associated materials and processes to include mechanical schematics, engineering for CNC machining, 3D printing variations, painting breakup and tolerancing.
• Familiarity with various finishing operations (coatings, plating, etc.) and experience using basic machine shop tools (hand tools, basic power tools) to complete prototype / pilot run builds.
• Ability to work productively in an environment that doesn’t provide rigid boundaries and requires an ability to refocus / reprioritize with minimal advance notice.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas in a nontechnical manner, actively listen to others and manage differing viewpoints so the final product remains true to the objective.
• An enthusiastic team player with a high-level of infectious energy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to use computer keyboard and sit in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Work is performed in a typical office work environment.
• 10% – 15% travel may be required. Travel may include overnight trips covering areas both in and out of state.
• Extended work hours (12+ hrs/day) required on occasion due to the necessity to meet client needs which can involve attendance at meetings and working with others to finalize projects and meet multiple deadlines requiring attendance that begins well before the normally scheduled workday and may extend well into the evening. This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to company drug and alcohol screening including pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident.
