We are working with a principal investment firm based in Memphis, TN, founded to deliver superior returns by partnering with entrepreneurial founders and management teams who are devoted to creating enduring businesses. The investment approach is focused on identifying businesses with long growth runways and sustainable competitive positions. The firm manages funds investing in long-term, concentrated portfolios of both publicly traded and private businesses.

The firm is seeking to add a Vice President to its private equity investment team. The firm looks at acquiring positions of control or significant minority influence in privately held, middle market businesses. It intends to back owner-operators in the services and technology sectors who maintain significant ownership post-close and employ these partnerships to build extraordinary businesses that can deliver superior returns over extended periods. The investment targets will typically generate $15 million to $150 million of annual revenues and approximately $2 million to $20 million of EBITDA.

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional investment team Vice President who will have substantial responsibility throughout the lifecycle of the investment and due diligence process. The Vice President will work in a highly collaborative environment where successful candidates will be able to demonstrate leadership, initiative and teamwork, strong technical writing skills, and advanced financial modeling and presentation skills.

The Vice President will work with all team members and take a leading role in the firm’s investment decisions by developing deep and differentiated market and company-specific insights. The firm is comprised of a small, tight-knit group of investment professionals, and the VP will have frequent and direct interactions with the founder/managing partner of WG and operating partners of the portfolio companies.

The VP will demonstrate outstanding character and is experienced in working with small teams. Core responsibilities will include leading financial and operational diligence, constructing financial models to evaluate investment economics, cultivating key relationships with executives, industry experts, consultants, etc. across the services and technology verticals, and managing external consultants and legal counsel during transaction execution.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial and operation due diligence
    • Cultivate key relationships with executives, industry experts, consultants
    • Coordinate and manage external vendors and service providers during transaction execution
    • Lead role in managing due diligence workstreams for platform and add-on acquisitions from initial diligence through close
    • Lead the investment committee memo drafting process and preparation of investment
      committee memos
  • Spearhead and lead sourcing campaigns and strategies
  • Develop new industry theses
  • Serve on portfolio company boards and liaise with portfolio company operators on key value creation initiatives including strategy, KPI reporting, etc.

Qualifications
The chief qualifications for the role are demonstrable interest in private equity investment analysis, a thirst for learning, intellectual humility, and a commitment to a continuous pursuit of excellence. Candidates should be capable of working both collaboratively and independently while balancing time sensitive work with various ongoing responsibilities.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience which can include, but is not limited to, private equity, investment banking, corporate finance, transaction advisory services, strategy consulting, equity research, business analysis and valuation, etc.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree which demonstrates intellectual curiosity and academic
    excellence in any field of study
  • MBA is a plus
  • Understanding of accounting, corporate finance, economics, and business strategy
    Proficiency with the MS Office suite, especially Excel (financial modeling) and PowerPoint
    Exceptional analytical, oral, written, and presentation skills

Compensation

  • Base Salary + Cash Bonus
  • Opportunity to participate in profit sharing and carried interest / incentive fee across the WG funds
  • Salary commensurate with experience
