The Quality Manager, CoMan is a part of the Quality team and reports directly to the SVP, Quality. This individual is responsible for managing food safety and quality at the corporate level by building strong relationships and accountabilities for our contract manufacturing partners. The Quality Manager, CoMan will manage the oversight of Contract Manufacturers and raw material suppliers to ensure that the highest standards of safety and quality for finished product manufacturing are in place.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage 6-10 co-mans to ensure high-quality and safe products; Continuously strive to improve the co-man’s Quality Scorecard
• Provide subject matter expertise regarding internal food safety management system (ISO 22000 based); Perform internal audits, as requested
• Drive food safety best practices that are aligned with our SGF Technical Agreement along with internal policies and procedures and modernized FDA / USDA regulations within each contract manufacturer and/or supplier
• Conduct food safety and quality audits of existing / new co-manufacturers and suppliers based upon risk level
• Partner with R&D to assure processes used in development can be duplicated in commercial operations while maintaining cost-effectiveness, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
• Assist co-mans with troubleshooting food safety and/or quality issues and manage them through the internal nonconformance management process
• Manage updates to co-man scorecards on a monthly basis including improving consumer complaints trends
• Participate in the co-man finished product specification and supplier approval process by ensuring a supplier risk assessment approach is in place along with maintenance and continuous improvement activities; Communicate relevant concerns to appropriate cross-functional departments and co-mans
• Establish and execute policies, procedures, processes, and principles that comply with quality and regulatory requirements; Ensure appropriate monitoring, evaluation and successful change control execution
• Work closely with R&D and Supply Chain operations on problems with diverse and challenging scopes that require innovative solutions guided by policies and practices
• Manage large, complex projects from the Quality Assurance (QA) aspect; Direct accountability for product safety and product quality aspects; Work with multiple functional groups to negotiate QA related project deliverables and assure their completion
• Assist with evaluation of finished product retention samples and new productions samples, as necessary
• Shared responsibility to assure that packaging labels are accurate and in compliance with applicable regulations and food safety
• Act as the backup to the Sr. Manager Quality Systems & Raw Materials to assist with the SGF Traceability / Recall
• Plan and lead periodic trace exercises in preparation for the annual mock recall, as required
• Participate / Lead special projects and assignments, as required
• Participate in all other miscellaneous SMPL and departmental tasks, as required
• Attend departmental/cross-functional meetings

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE:

• Ability to manage multiple quality and food safety activities across a network of contract manufacturers producing a variety of finished products
• Outstanding computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment
• Adapt to the changing and growing needs of the Quality department and / or the company
• Ability to resolve issues of conflict in a tactful and professional manner
• Independent judgement is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload
• Ability to track and synthesize information coming in from various sources
• Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
• Exemplary communication and presentation skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivating with a desire to make an impact

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or equivalent field, required
• PCQI and GFSI Certification, strongly preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a Food Manufacturing environment, highly preferred
• Expertise in Food Safety and Quality Systems: FMSA, FSVP, HACCP, GMP’s, Sanitation, PEM Allergen Program, Food Defense, etc.
• Strong knowledge of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Audit Schemes; ISO 22000/FSSC Certification experience, preferred
• General knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations
• Travel 25-35%, required

**Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment and may be stressful at times. Work may require sitting for long periods of time; requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine and scanner.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The compensation available for this role includes base salary, and an annual short-term bonus. All incentive plans are subject to management and Board of Directors discretion. The projected annual base salary range for this role is: $99,000 to $120,000 The annual short-term incentive target for this role is: 15% of your annual base salary
