Position Summary
The Senior Director, Business Development will lead the growth of the Contract Development and Manufacturing (CDMO) business by developing strategic partnerships with medical device OEMs seeking outsourced product development, manufacturing, and commercialization solutions.
This executive will be responsible for identifying, developing, and expanding new business opportunities while growing existing strategic accounts. The ideal candidate has a proven track record selling complex CDMO services within the medical device industry and understands the unique challenges associated with regenerative medicine, tissue-based products, biomaterials, collagen technologies, and implantable medical devices.
Success in this role requires a consultative sales approach, executive-level relationship management, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, R&D, quality, regulatory, operations, and manufacturing teams to deliver customized solutions for customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to drive growth of the Contract Development & Manufacturing (CDMO) business.
- Build, maintain, and manage a robust pipeline of new OEM opportunities focused on contract development, process development, manufacturing, technology transfer, and commercialization.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new strategic partnerships with medical device manufacturers requiring outsourced development and manufacturing capabilities.
- Grow existing strategic accounts while identifying opportunities to expand development programs and manufacturing partnerships.
- Lead the complete consultative sales process from prospect identification through contract negotiation and long-term account management.
- Develop trusted relationships with executive decision-makers across Engineering, Product Development, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, and Executive Leadership.
- Present technical capabilities and manufacturing solutions to prospective customers, translating complex technologies into business value.
- Collaborate with internal technical and operational teams to develop customized development and manufacturing solutions that align with customer objectives.
- Negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Development Agreements, Supply Agreements, and other long-term commercial contracts.
- Own revenue growth, pipeline management, forecasting, and strategic account planning.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings while maintaining a strong understanding of market trends, competitive activity, and emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive commercial leadership experience within the medical device industry.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful business development, strategic alliances, or key account management experience selling Contract Development and Manufacturing (CDMO) services.
- Demonstrated success developing new business and closing complex, multi-year manufacturing and development partnerships with medical device OEMs.
- Strong understanding of the medical device product development lifecycle, including design transfer, process development, manufacturing scale-up, validation, commercialization, and supply chain management.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements and long-term strategic partnerships.
- Experience managing complex sales cycles involving multiple technical and executive stakeholders.
- Proficiency with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
